I decided to research into different websites related to my field of interest and took some insights from the format and the presentation of each person, which reflects professionalism and interest towards the viewer of their page. Most people I’ve tried to find so far don’t necessarily have a portfolio page for me to research and only have social media accounts.
One of these pages comes from an animator who helps with tutorials and principles of animation, including principles in storyboarding.
AngryAnimator (Dermot O’ Connor): https://www.angryanimator.com/word/about/
His website is simple and straight to the point, not necessarily complex but also isn’t too visually appealing since it’s mostly based on function. It’s interesting compared to most artist sites since it’s not heavily customized and is more about showcasing the basics like how he teaches with his courses. I think it is a neat approach if you are wanting something basic but gets the point across in the professional field.
James Yang (Illustration/Animator): https://www.jamesyang.com/animations
His website is pretty freelance and feels more niche compared to other varied artist sites, so it’s mostly work posts and text related to the post itself. From a professional standpoint, it’s a bit too simple for a portfolio since it’s a little rough and not crazily polished. However, I’ve seen portfolios similar to these for illustrators, so it isn’t the biggest dealbreaker for most companies.
Erin McDermott
https://www.erinmcd.com/
As she focuses on design and illustrations (Character Designs), her portfolio is what you would expect from a studio artist and from someone who has worked in the animation industry as she worked on South Park in the past. Her page design is relatively simple but clean, only resides text for the most basic approaches or for alt text, and is more about showcasing her skill as an artist from doing expressions, sheets, and sketches to provide flexibility for her career choice.
Krysten Savov:
https://krystinsavov.journoportfolio.com/
Krysten focuses on multiple professions, such as animator, storyboard artist, and illustrator. and was a student. She keeps her page organized and has reels for her work to showcase. I had previously at her work before in another page or from another source. This is one of the only provided pages I could find, but I may not be aware of its publication state due to its error. For the most part, she kept her work clean and organized for viewers to see.
Amelie Elmquist:
https://amelieelmquist.journoportfolio.com/portfolio/
Amelie is a video artist and illustrator animator. Her portfolio is incredibly organized but much of it is pretty big so it requires much scrolling to see all that she can offer, so it may not be as intuitive as she thinks it would be. She sets most of her animation in a reel and makes her reels on the top for evaluation and for quick viewing, which I appreciate.
